How to play Outburn 87

Outburn 87 is a one-thumb game by design. If you can point, you can drive. Mastery is another story, and that is the fun of it.

Controls

• Steer: touch the left or right half of the screen. On a keyboard: the arrow keys.
• Brake: both halves at once, two fingers down (or the down arrow). The brake lights glow, the speed bleeds off. You will need it more than you think.
• No gas pedal. The car accelerates on its own; your job is everything else.

Hearts and fuel

You carry three hearts. Hitting traffic or roadside obstacles burns one; lose all three and you are BURNED, that is the game over. Fuel pumps appear along the road: hit them to keep the tank alive. Distance is your score, in kilometres.

Stages and biomes

Every stage the road gets a little faster and busier, and every few stages the world changes: sunset coast, countryside, desert, canyon, forest, alpine, night, neon city. The speed cap starts near 100 km/h and passes 300 in the later stages. The difficulty adapts to your driving, so the game stays in that "one more run" zone instead of walling you off.
